MISSION

ŠTO TE NEMA is an artist led organization committed to imagining and building a world without genocide and war. We partner with survivors, activists, artists, policy makers, and scholars to disrupt and challenge the normalization of mass atrocities. We make art as a form of mourning, healing and resistance in the aftermath of loss, destruction and violence that our communities have survived and endured. We use empathy, solidarity and participatory practices as tools to create models for intergenerational genocide remembrance and prevention, offering new forms of public memory.

Prior to becoming a nonprofit, ŠTO TE NEMA ŠTO TE NEMA existed as a participatory nomadic monument to the Srebrenica Genocide that had traveled to 15 different cities around the world from 2006 to 2020. To demonstrate the importance of community building and recovery in the aftermath of war, Bosnian-American artist Aida Šehović created ŠTO TE NEMA in 2006. She co-founded the organization together with Dr. Dženeta Karabegović and Edina Škaljić in 2021.
